The Butts

In my journey to become a well refined artist, I am attempting to knit the world "Butt". So far it is not where I want it to be. I still have yet to learn more about intarsia and fair isle knitting. With the first Butt, it curled a bunch especially between the two Ts and the U and T. I had to cut them in the back order to make it more legible. I don't know how to make these without curling them so much. I want them to be flatter. I think the second butt should have been thicker. I'm going to do some more research for intarsia and fair isle and see if there's a way I can write Butt without pulling so much in the back.

AHH

Hello, fans. I am back again! I have used the technique of intarsia to create this small square that say the word, "AHH" on it. I think I would like it better if the lettering were thicker. I think it would make it more legible. I made the lettering myself by making a chart on paper first. I started with the purl stitch to set it up and then set it with the knit stitch. this was made using the stockinette stitch. It's really fun doing intarsia! You combine the two (or more yarn) you use and twist them when you use them intermittently in order to prevent holes. I think I should have used fair isle knitting, however for this because intarsia is typically used for a block pattern. For example, if the AHH was just a square, intarsia would work really well for this. Using intarsia for this made it so that back was scrunched up a little. It was mostly fine, though. I am still trying to figure out intarsia and fair isle more. I'm going to try out fair isle knitting, perhaps tomorrow. I think this is cool! I like it and I'm so excited to learn more about this!

My First Cable Hat!!!

I'm so excited! I completed my first cable hat and I really like it! I learned to cable awhile back, but never put it on anything. It turns out that it's not as hard as I thought. I decided to put my cables on a hat because they're fast to make, I know how to make them, and I can wear it now! A big mistake I used to make while cable knitting was not being consistent with putting the stitches on the cable knitting in font and then the next one in back, when it should be consistent with in front or in back. The brim of the hat is knit behind the stitch and purl one. Knitting behind the stitch is so cool! Instead of going through the knit stitch through the front, you go behind!

I really love this yarn that I used for the hat. It has a very beautiful earthy tone and I like how the other colors work into it. It looks very pretty, especially with more complicated styles of knitting. Cables are not so complicated to me, now that I've practiced them a lot. Isn't that so wonderful to be able to say that now something that was once hard now comes more naturally to you? I love that! It's such a nice moment to finally get something that you've been trying to work on for a long time. It happens a lot with knitting and it's so satisfying when your frustration becomes satisfaction.

I've really been enjoying the song from the movie Coraline called Exploration. They play it when she's exploring the house because she's bored in the beginning of the movie. It's a really sweet song. The Laika films (the production company that created Coraline and other amazing films) is so fantastic. They so carefully produce every item with so much detail and work hard to create their films. It's so wonderful to see and makes me want to work that hard on my art. That's why I'm going to keep pushing myself in my knitting. Knitting is very special to me and I haven't had that much time to work on it. I am still working on my sack, however. It is about halfway done. I left it at school so that I can focus on more complicated projects during winter break.

What's That? A Hat. A Crazy Funky Junky Hat.

Good evening, folks.
Welcome to another entry of Sarit Knits. At the beginning of November I made a hat for my sibling for our birthday! It is red because red is a color I associate with them. I started with ribbing for the base and then did a knit one, purl one for the rest of the hat. Maybe they're both called ribbing, but the base of the hat is knit two, purl two. I really like making hats because they're fast to make and easy to make, once you know how. This is not a crazy, funky, junky hat, but a regular one. For my siblings' birthday (and also mine), I wanted to do a theme for presents. This theme was "warmth" because I believe we all need warmth. This hat was an example of it. I had to do a pretty basic format because it was while I was in school and I didn't have much time to do something complicated. Having a basic form allows you to make something while doing other things.
Some things you can do while knitting something pretty basic:
1. Watch TV
2. Talk with friends
3. Knit and eat (high level stuff)
4. Knit while walking and then have people say "What are you doing" and then you not responding.
5. Knit while eating at the cafeteria so that you don't really have to participate in conversation, but can choose to from time to time. (See number 2 and 3)
and finally:
6. Knit while talking on the phone so that you can have a conversation, but also can zone out and focus on your knitting if you so choose.

Here are the lyrics to the song I am referencing in the title. It is from the TV show, Wizards of Waverly Place:
What's that? A hat. Crazy funky junky hat
Overslept, hair's unsightly
Tryin' to look like Kiera Knightly
We've been there we've done that
We see right through your funky hat

I'm knitting...during school?

Hello fans! It is me. Sarit! Tonight I decided that this week has been a roller coaster. I needed some me time. Grades are a very daunting thing. Hooray for finishing my second week of college. I'm knitting during school. I want to have a knitting party with people. Anyway, I'm continuing my sack. I am going to make this so long and then go into my sack that I have made. Here is me in my dorm room. It feels so nice to knit and relax for a little while. I've been wondering how much grades matter vs how much going to school for the sake of learning matters. Like I don't ever want to give up either, and I wonder if those two need to be separated. Sometimes I wish I could learn and not feel the need to pay attention to grade, but grades can also be a good way to showing (partly) how much you are learning. It can also encourage you to push yourself. However, it can be really hard when you feel like grades are a representation of your self worth or something that tells whether you will be successful or not. This is not one hundred percent accurate, but it's hard to know. Sometimes the stress of grades will prohibit me from doing my hobbies. However, it is also really good for me to work hard and see the results from my hard work. It can be hard to balance this. I'm trying to work towards healthier ways of thinking about grades. I'm also trying to think about how to work hard in productive ways and reach my goals, while accepting that it doesn't always turn out exactly the way I want it to. I'm pretty tired now. Thanks for reading!

Baby Sweater!

I didn't get to knit as much as I wanted to this summer. Crap on a popsicle. I did a lot of cool things this summer, though. I just miss knitting so much. However, when I was in DC one of my pals told me about how every time her Grandma had a new grandchild she knit them a sweater. Then a light bulb went off in my head that maybe that's what I want to do when I'm a grandmother. However, there is no time like the present to learn how to make bomb ass sweaters. Since I am nowhere near being a Grandma, I figured I'd start early. However, maybe I won't be a Grandma and that's ok. Maybe I won't have kids or my kids won't have kids and I will support them anyway! Who says we have to succumb to societal expectations of marriage and childbearing? We only get one chance to go through the world one time so we should do what we want, provided we are not hurting others or something like that. What do I know? I'm 18. However, I did recently see this play called A Dollshouse 2 and it tackled issues of marriage and children and it was so interesting! Like it didn't present these issues like having or not having kids or getting married as a good or bad thing, it just analyzed them. I went with my Mom and we saw Nicole Kidman at that play, so that's pretty rad! Anyway, Grandma, and me. I think even if I never become a Grandma, I am still very grandma-like at heart. Whatever that means. So I wanted to make a sweater, but didn't have time to make a big one like I made before. So I combined my grandma vibes and my inability to make a full length sweater and came up with this.

So I added three different colors because I #ranoutofyarn and #don'tplanahead or I wanted a #artisticflair. Whichever reason resonates with you best. I don't really love it. But I am still really impressed that I made a sweater. Sweaters are just so cool! I love them! I could have made a neckline for the sweater, but I was too lazy. Whoops. The front and the back don't fit as well as I would have liked. I also don't know if I sewed the sleeves on that well. I wish I had a baby to test this on. Anyone have a baby they'd like me to test this sweater on? I think if you look at it you can tell it's a sweater. However, I am biased on that front. I want to get better at making sweaters and I want to learn as much as I can about sweaters. Maybe I can do some intarsia on sweaters! Wowza! I'm so excited. Maybe one day I'll be making my own sweaters. I love knitting! I'm learning and I love that!

Need moreeee

Working on my baby sweater! I am not on one of the arms. I ran out of yarn that I made for the back and body so I am using a different color. This will look interesting when it's done. I'm currently watching Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Year Reunion. I watched the movie Wet Hot American Summer with my pals in DC and it was so nice. It is so funny. I went to an amusement park today. It was fun! I've been thinking a lot about motivation and where it comes from. I have so much time and a lot of things I want to work on, especially with that time. It's a lot easier to ignore that side of me and do things that don't require a lot of energy. I want to read more, write more, knit more, work on my zine, etc. I haven't had a lot of chances to work on those kind of things, but it's so easy to say I'll do them tomorrow because I know I'll have time to. But these are things that are important to me, so I don't know why I ignore them. It can be really easy to do nothing and I don't know how to light that fire and also be socially active as well.

Baby???

New project alert! I'm making a baby sweater. I wanted to make another sweater, but don't have enough time to make a full blown on. On my trip to DC, one of my friends was like "my grandma made baby sweaters for me and all the rest of her grandchildren" and I was like dis could be me as a grandma if I become one. When/if I become a Grandma I want to be called Grandmother Lucinda. These grandkids have to call my Grandmother Lucinda. I will not respond to anything else. I will also not explain this to them until they are 18 years old. They will have to deal with 18 years of confusion. The story is thus: My friend/roommate during DC told me the story of how she had to call her Grandmother Grandmother Lucinda all her life. Then when her cousins were born she let them call her Lulu. This made my roommate very angry because saying Grandmother Lucinda at a young age is hard, and her cousins got it easy! I also want this to be my college nickname. I think that will be my college goal. Somehow get everyone to call me Grandmother Lucinda. I am a pioneer. So I am making a sweater for a nonexistent baby and I want to be called Grandmother Lucinda. Good night, dear reader.

Tree or leaf? You decide!

I learned how to do this cool stitch that looks like a tree. Or maybe a leaf. I just looked up interesting stitches online because I wanted to do something that required more brain power than the sack. It's pretty cool looking. Knitting is cool. Does anyone remember that song "Jump On It" by Sir-Mix A Lot? Because I do! It's like a song from my childhood. People played it at JCC camp. It's such a fun jam. Says the 45 year old soccer mom. I almost leave for Colorado and I'm so excited. I'm so nervous for Machon Kaplan, though. WOops. Anyway, I don't know what knitting stuff I'm going to bring because I don't think I can bring my sack. Maybe I'll make a cable hat. Or like a tank top or something. I need more inspiration! I've gotten some trolls from my brain that say I need to pep up my blog. To them haterz I say "shut up" don't listen to yur haters because they're only their to bring you down and not rise you up and Jesus Christ died and was risen. Inspiration is a fleeting concept. Anyway, this was a quick post. I hope you're having a great day.

The Sack Is Back

First things first, I got a second piercing on my ears! I love them so much, so I'm gonna show off them earlobes in this post. Today I saw this movie that I love! It's called The Way He Looks. It is so amazing. It has such a good representation of someone with a disability and a same-sex relationship. I also like that it's not really about being blind or being gay and like how sad it is to fit in with those identities. It showed realities without it being like having a disability or being gay is only a sad life. Anyway, I'm continuing my sack! It's gotten so long. It's like the size of my whole torso. I've added some stripes and in the one blue stripe I have different shades. I think I want to do it more to make it more interesting. I also want to do different sizes of stripes because the whole point of this is that it is an art piece. It is a place in which one can put their whole body in it. However, this is made for my body. It is just for me. Creating this is also supposed to be freeing. I can be distracted and make it or I can choose to be specific artistic flairs or pay attention to the overall look or specific parts of it. It's a freeing project.

Knitting Memes/Pictures

I am having too much of a good time looking through these pictures on Pinterest. Please enjoy:Ladies make your man some crocheted pants! Keep Calm and Carry Yarn

I cable stitched! It's hard to see in these pictures, but this is a broader stitch with 6 stitches and made within the stitch and doesn't shift the stitch like the last one did. One mistake I had been making was I thought you had to put the cable stitch in the front for one row and then for the next row you have to put them in the back. However, for this particular one you take three stitches from the cable and put them in the front, knit the next 3 stitches in the cable then knit the three stitches off the cable needle. I just used a double pointed needle, though. You can also use a pencil instead of buying a cable needle. Then on the flip side you just knit or purl as needed. I also had a row of just knitting/purling as needed on the cable side in order to keep it from being too tight. So basically I would 1. do the cable stitch 2. knit/purl the back as needed 3.knit/purl the cable side 4. knit/purl the back 5. do everything again. Cable stitches are so fun! I'm so glad I finally figured out how to do them. There are so many different kinds and I want to learn how to do more sometime. I also want to make a hat with cables! I also want to make a tank top. Try to make a better tank top than that one time I made one. I also want to continue my sack project.  I finished watching Shameless on Netflix. Wow. It's so weird how people get so invested in TV shows. Like I felt like I was really involved in all of those characters' lives and it's so weird to have to wait for the next season or that this show won't be new to me anymore. Why am I so invested in their lives? I want them all to be ok, but they won't because it's a dramatic TV show! I just really love Kev. He is so great. Like I felt like I was living their lives while I was watching it. That's like normal, but that's so weird that humans have this capacity?!? Also does this mean that I am not doing enough with my life? I haven't really been doing a lot, but sometimes being involved in other people's lives via TV is ok? It's so weird. I feel like my school life and home life is very different. I am much more of a lump at home. Is that ok, though? I'm not sure. See the last picture below for a sweet knitting meme(?) Also I took the title from www.google.com. Not my idea. Plz don't sue me, www.google.com!

This is pretty much what the cable looks like since it's hard to see in these pictures. Mine aren't as elongated, though.
